Week 1 update - I could really use your help! | Wikipedia Daily
I'm doing a giveaway! Read to learn how to join today's giveaway!
Hi everyone,
No, this isn’t the usual programming. Today I’m just talking directly to you, my email subscribers. It’s been a full week since Wikipedia Daily started, and we grew a lot more quickly than I expected!
I love Wikipedia. I love browsing, editing, contributing, and learning from Wikipedia. And with Wikipedia Daily, my intention is to share what the vast knowledgebase of Wikipedia has to offer with you, one page a day, every single day. Give it 18,630 years, and we would have together completed the entire Wikipedia knowledgebase with this very newsletter.
…
Yeah that’s not gonna happen! But let’s not dwell on that fact. Let’s rather look at the fact that we will learn just one new thing, every day. Every year, you will know 365 more interesting things about this beautiful world than without this newsletter.
So congratulations on choosing this journey! Share the journey with your friends, family members, and coworkers by forwarding this email to them!
Also, I am looking to make this newsletter the best that it can be. Your feedback means a lot. If you think something would make this newsletter better, whether it be the schedule, or the topics being discussed, or something else, let me know.
F.A.Q:
Q: Is this some bot sending me automated emails every day? Or are you actually writing these yourself?
A: Every aspect of this newsletter is hand-done by me. The writing, the research, the designing of media, and more. This wouldn’t make sense if it was something a bot can do.
If you peek through my window at 1am (please don’t), you’d find me at my desk with 37+ tabs open, researching, writing and trying to make sure tomorrow morning’s letter is an absolute masterpiece… or else it becomes 2am, and I got to sleep for work the next day!😬
Q: What kind of topics can I expect from Wikipedia Daily?
A: The topics that you can expect are certainly broad, there’s no doubt about that. Wikipedia covers pretty much everything us humans know about our world. Trust me, that’s a lot of stuff.
One thing I strive for when researching is to find things that will surprise. Something that will be different, thought-provoking, and overall interesting. Topics that will make you go “Huh, that’s actually pretty cool / interesting / beautiful / wild / odd / surprising!”. It’s not an easy challenge to find something like that every day for you, but I’m going to make sure you are satisfied with each newsletter every single day. And if you’re not, let me know for the next day. Feedback is everything.
Q: What time of day does the newsletter release?
A: The newsletter releases at 10:30am ET / 9:30am CT / 8:30am PT every day. I chose this time so it can cover the continental United States’ time zones, so the people who will most likely read this newsletter will receive it in their inbox just as they sit down at their desk, or check their morning email. I am unsure if it’s the proper time to be sending it, and I would love to know if you think a different time to release would make more sense. Let me know what you think!
Q: I’m a free subscriber, and don’t know if it’s worth paying. How will I know if its worth it?
A: Glad you asked! Rather than tell you, I’d much rather show you (but don’t worry I’ll tell you too). For this month of February, I’m offering a 14 day free trial to Wikipedia Daily. If you’re wondering if it’s worth it, there’s no better way to find out than to simply try it. Button below.
Here are the benefits you can expect:
You can directly support this personal project of mine, which can hopefully grow to share Wikipedia with more and more people who will then learn one new thing every single day as well.
A portion of your subscription payment is donated to Wikipedia. So if you value what Wikipedia has offered this world thus far, and want to support its project, you can do so by subscribing to this newsletter. Obviously you can donate directly to Wikipedia, but you will also be supporting me at the same time, and it would be a recurring donation every month, which may not be on your schedule already.
You will be getting newsletters 7 days a week. As a free subscriber, you only get a newsletter twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. But let me know if you’d prefer a different schedule! Even as a free subscriber I want your experience here to be as best as it can be. If you think changing this schedule would be better overall, let me know why by replying to this email!
You can be apart of this community more directly, being able to comment on every post, and discuss your thoughts on each post with others!
